November 8, 2005 - Fiji

Today we're still in Fiji. We went on a jungle trek to a waterfall with Jiuta (the coconut man!).

It was awesome!

Here are some things he told us we could make with bamboo: 1. You can make sides of a Fijian house by weaving it; 2. You can use it to bring water to your crops; 3. You can use it as a water bottle; 4. You can use it as a tube to cook food; 5. You can make goal posts for a rugby field; 6. You can use it for rafts; 7. You can use it for part of a spear. We also saw a big marine toad on the jungle trek.
After the trek we went into Jiuta's village and had some kava. When you go into a village you have to take off your hat. The whole village is one family. If you go into the village you have to give the chief something.

During low tide we walked around in the ocean looking for shells. While we were out there we found many pretty shells. We also saw a blacktip shark! Every day at 4:00 p.m. we have tea and scones. They are really good.
There are a lot of geckos. They make the weirdest chirping sound. I have not caught one yet...
