November 10, 2005 - Melbourne, Australia
Today started out (and ended) wonderfully. We went for a walk in a park (near Kate's home where we are staying in Melbourne). We saw a brush-tailed possum, Willy wagtails, magpies, rainbow lorikeets, and a barking owl. Soon it started to look like it was going to rain. We decided to make our hike a little shorter. Then it started to rain.
Soon we were in town and we stopped at a bank to exchange our American money, but they said we needed to have an account to exchange for Australian money (Mom's note: If we had an account, then we'd already have Australian money!!). So we walked some more in the rain, because we didn't have any money to take a taxi or a bus (or to buy anything to eat!). Finally, about an hour and one-half later we finally found a bank and got some lunch (including some real Aussie meat pies!). We were all so happy to finally get back to Kate's house.
We had dinner with Kate and Clive and then went out to feed some brush-tailed possums. We also saw some grey-headed flying foxes (fruit bats) and had some gelati on the way home!
